Liquid Gas UK, the LPG trade association, have launched an important campaign, urging homeowners to prepare for winter early.
UK rural homeowners who rely on off-grid fuels such as liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and renewable liquid gas to heat their homes, are encouraged to prepare for winter heating now.
George Webb, CEO at Liquid Gas UK, the trade association for the LPG and renewable liquid gas industry, says that getting supplies topped up and homes prepared for winter early will help to relieve pressure on homeowners, should winter conditions become harsh.
“The winter months are when fuel is in peak demand, but this can also be a time when supplies can get limited due to pressure on the supply chain.

“This means it’s essential homeowners ensure their supplies are topped up to relieve pressure during the winter months,” says Mr Webb.
He explains that winter conditions can be incredibly extreme meaning it is critical for homeowners to have properly functioning heating systems.
According to Met Office data1, in December 2022, the average UK temperature was 2.9°C, which is 1.3°C cooler than the 1991-2020 average.
“We don’t yet know what this winter will look like, but it’s important that LPG consumers are prepared for whatever the winter may throw at us. Poor weather conditions not only raise the demand for fuel, but could also cause challenges for transportation and delivery, so topping up supplies ahead of winter is always a good idea, just in case. To support rural homeowners, industry and suppliers will be communicating to customers directly about getting their supplies prepared ahead of winter,” he says.
Mr Webb explains industry has already begun this outreach, which will include providing advice on ordering LPG ahead of time, what to do in case of payment concerns and energy saving tips.
“One of the crucial steps we’re advising all homeowners to do is to check their LPG tank level now and get it topped up if it is low. Alongside this, it’s a good idea to discuss with your supplier about optimum order times, and whether you have the option of connecting to an automatic ordering system for deliveries during the winter period,” he says.
Mr Webb explains that the LPG industry is committed to supporting homeowners through the winter months by making significant investments in infrastructure, assets and strategic storage over the past few years.
“The industry has invested in workforce recruitment, upskilling and training and customer service over the last few years to better support homeowners and tackle any challenges they may face during winter. For homeowners requiring additional support, particularly those who are concerned about costs, we encourage them to speak to their suppliers, who will be able to advise them on options going forward. Preparing in advance across the areas of fuel supply, energy efficiency and costs will help rural homeowners to be in the best position possible for the winter months ahead,” he concludes.
